چکیده

In this correspondence, we show that for any (Q×M) space-time code S having a fixed, finite signal constellation, there is a tradeoff between the transmission rate R and the transmit diversity gain ν achieved by the code. The tradeoff is characterized by R ≤ Q−ν +1, where Q is the number of transmit antennas. When either BPSK or QPSK is used as the signal constellation, a systematic construction is presented to achieve the maximum possible rate for every possible value of transmit diversity gain. Keywords— Space-time codes, rate-diversity tradeoff.

On the theory of space-time codes for PSK modulation

The design of space–time codes to achieve full spatial diversity over fading channels has largely been addressed by handcrafting example codes using computer search methods and only for small numbers of antennas. The lack of more general designs is in part due to the fact that the diversity advantage of a code is the minimum rank among the complex baseband differences between modulated codeword...

Generalized upper bounds on the minimum distance of PSK block codes

This paper generalizes previous optimal upper bounds on the minimum Euclidean distance for phase shift keying (PSK) block codes, that are explicit in three parameters: alphabet size, block length and code size. The bounds are primarily generalized from codes over symmetric PSK to codes over asymmetric PSK and also to general alphabet size. Furthermore, block codes are optimized in the presence ...

Explicit, Minimum-Delay Space-Time Codes Achieving The Diversity-Multiplexing Gain Tradeoff

In the recent landmark paper of Zheng and Tse it is shown that there exists a fundamental tradeoff between diversity gain and multiplexing gain, referred to as the DiversityMultiplexing gain(D-MG) tradeoff. The present paper presents the first explicit construction of space-time (ST) codes for arbitrary number of transmit antennas that achieve the D-MG tradeoff. It is shown here that ST codes w...

Linear threaded algebraic space-time constellations

Space–time (ST) constellations that are linear over the field of complex numbers are considered. Relevant design criteria for these constellations are summarized and some fundamental limits to their achievable performances are established. The fundamental tradeoff between rate and diversity is investigated under different constraints on the peak power, receiver complexity, and rate scaling with...

Space-time codes achieving the DMD tradeoff of the MIMO-ARQ channel

For the quasi-static, Rayleigh-fading multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel with transmit and receive antennas, Zheng and Tse showed that there exists a fundamental tradeoff between diversity and spatial-multiplexing gains, referred to as the diversity–multiplexing gain (D-MG) tradeoff. Subsequently, El Gamal, Caire, and Damen considered signaling across the same channel using an -round...
